Hello!
I'm Megs

I am a multi-disciplinary designer with over 10 yrs experience working as an Interior designer for Architectural studios in Melbourne and London and I have a Masters in Narrative Environments from Central St Martin's in London.

I believe good design + creative problem solving
can elevate how we live, think and engage.
You matter to me
Helping people improve their built environment by creating inspiring and supportive spaces for themselves is my passion.
(And not allowing money or 'ownership' be a barrier!)
I understand the power of place, and the positive impact that living in a home that reflects who we uniquely are, has on our self-worth and well-being.
What's driving me . . .
Empowerment Through Design
Growing up, my parents ran a residential aged-care home for 13 yrs, where I saw first-hand how limiting the built environment can be on the independence and wellbeing of older people.
No matter which stage of life you are in, it's everyone's right to be able to live in a home that reflects who they are and supports them in the ways that matter most to them.

There are always limitations to work around, but a creative mind can identify possibilities in limitations.
Co-creation
In my later years as an interior designer for residential aged care projects, I found myself frustrated. The needs of the people actually living in these spaces could often be overlooked or misunderstood.
And it's unfortunately not uncommon – it happens in other design areas too. The whole idea of an 'expert' can sometimes lead to a bunch of assumptions that often don't lead to quality and enduring outcomes.
So, here's what I think: let's try to flip the script. To empower you as the homemaker, let the designer be the mentor. Someone that you can turn to for advice and guidance, but not tell you what you should do.

Forget the idea that others always know better, or that the solution is in what we don't actually have (e.g. more money or a bigger home.)
I believe that if you take the time to understand your own needs, and let that guide how you set up your home, you can make a space that truly feels like home, no matter where you are living, or for how long.
Inclusivity
Loving your home shouldn't be a luxury; it's a right.

You have personal ownership over where you live whether you actually own your own it or you're renting. It's your home.

Whether you're living there for 6 months or 10 years, how it feels and supports you truly matters.

In families, everyone's got their own needs and preferences, and that counts when you're making a home that means something.
Kids, especially, keep changing, and it's on you to adapt and support each stage. Your home needs to grow with your family.
Storytelling Through Design
While living and working in London, I completed a Masters in Narrative Environments at Central St Martins, which was a way for me to break out of the stifling architectural mould and begin to think about the story of spaces - the way the built environment is able to create connections between people through design elements.

Our homes should tell our story... of where we have been, where are at in life, what we love, who we love...

All the things that matter most to us.
When you walk through the front door, your story unfolds.

It shouldn't look like a display house.
Because it is proudly YOUR home.
A personal and emotional connection is so important.
That's what makes it home.

Creative In My Pocket promotes
Sustainable Mindsets
We can reduce the ‘need’ for more by utilising what we already have more effectively.
If we better understand what we ‘need’ and why we need it, we can prevent those short-life ‘quick-fixes’ and instead find solutions that have enduring value to the household as it grows and changes over time (whether they can be modified over time or are multi-functional in use).
